Seta Label continues a strong year by welcoming Jeff Eveline to the label for his debut EP. Based in Los Angeles, the American artist gained considerable recognition for his work under the alias Elektro Boy before adopting his current moniker. Collaborations with Sam Paganini, Namito and Marco Lys came highly regarded, earning praise from a cross section of the industry’s tastemakers, perhaps most notably DJ Mag. 2019 has been a fruitful year thus far, yielding key releases on Madloch’s 3rd Avenue and Sound Avenue imprints. Now making his Seta Label debut, Jeff presents his three track artist showcase ‘Aphrodisiac Man’.
The EP’s opener and title selection ‘Aphrodisiac Man’ sets the tone for the release with its deep, sultry groove. Instantly dramatic, it’s grainy effects, buzzing tension and indistinct vocals converge for a storyboard full of character and colour. Organic drums come in flurries, advancing the narrative with tasteful restraint, before a timely transition ushers in a purring finale.
The second selection ‘The Lucid Risk’ follows a similar sonic ethos but with an added touch of musicality. A tough, punchy groove anchors the piece while wispy effects and exotic drums fill in the framework. As momentum builds a wave of atmosphere initiates the musical narrative. Cross cultural and deceptively meditative, it’s soulful resonance is hard to resist, carrying the narrative and completing this gem of a track.
Jeff’s affinity for redolent storyboarding has never been more evident than on EP’s closer ‘Hybrid Surrenders’. Backed by a hypno-groove and sultry rhythmic structures, it’s a creation that flows through a myriad of free form motifs. Hugely compelling throughout, indistinct vocal fragments and astral effects converge for moments of sonic integrity, while timely overlays and emerging atmospheres add to its mystical charm. Layers of percussion then come in waves, gently evolving across a foggy, atmospheric backdrop, before further cosmic creativities put a cap on this meditative gem. It rounds out three stunning creations from Jeff which makes for a hugely successful Seta Label debut.
